Joe and Heidi Stance are the founders of Stance Commercial Real Estate, a Riverside-based brokerage built on the belief that success follows serving others with integrity. Their connection to the Pick Group is personal and recent. Just five years ago, Heidi served on the Pick Group Board of Directors as the Impact & Social Chair, while Joe served alongside her as a member of the Social Committee. They are excited to return and share what they have learned since their own time as young professionals building careers, relationships, and a future in Riverside.
Their entrepreneurial journey began in 2018 when they stepped away from secure careers to build a business from the ground up.
Joe started his career in commercial real estate while working nights as a server at the Mission Inn to make ends meet. Heidi earned her doctorate from USC and spent 14 years in education before making the leap into entrepreneurship. Together, they have grown Stance CRE into one of the region’s most respected firms while remaining deeply committed to Riverside and the next generation of professionals.
Today, Joe serves as the 2026 President of CCIM Southern California and holds both the CCIM and SIOR designations—an achievement earned by only a small percentage of commercial real estate professionals worldwide. Heidi also holds the CCIM designation and serves as Vice President of the Southern California CCIM Chapter, reflecting the couple’s shared passion for education, leadership, and professional excellence.
In this session, Joe and Heidi will share the real story behind their careers—the victories, failures, risks, and lessons they have learned along the way. John R. Shoup, Ph.D.
John R. Shoup is a professor of leadership studies at California Baptist University, where he also teaches at the doctoral level in leadership, educational history, and policy. He has extensive experience in leadership development, having led research and conducted workshops on best practices.
Dr. Shoup’s background includes roles as a leadership institute co-founder and director, founding director of a Ph.D. program, university dean, school principal, and social worker. He is an author and frequent presenter on leadership and education.
He holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of California, Riverside, along with graduate degrees in divinity and counseling psychology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Montana. John has been married to Margarita for 37 years and has one daughter, Rebecca.

Join us for Riverside’s largest volunteer event of the year! The Greatest American Cleanup is part of a national movement that brings communities together to create cleaner, more beautiful public spaces.

Micah Tokuda has served as a financial advisor with Edward Jones since 2015, focusing on helping individuals and families feel confident in their financial strategies through education, coaching, and trusted relationships.
He earned both his MBA and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California Baptist University, where he was a member of the Men’s Volleyball team and part of three NAIA National Championship teams.
Micah is actively involved in the Riverside community, serving in leadership roles with several organizations including the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, United Way of the Inland Valleys, Riverside Meals on Wheels, and the Riverside Arts Museum.
Originally from Hawaii, Micah has lived in Riverside since 2005. He is most proud of his role as a husband to Lyndsy and father to their three children.
