Executive Board

The Pick Group will be governed by a volunteer board elected by Pick Group members. The board sets the budget, ensures committee success (so events happen) and set the overall strategic direction for the organization. It’s a real leadership position; it certainly is work requiring attendance at a monthly board meeting and a few hours a week to review materials and make recommendation, but as a developing young professional, serving on a non-profit board is an integral step to establishing yourself as a community leader. At this point, we envision the EB as comprised of the following positions (many job descriptions still need to be formulated, and those drafted below are not set in stone):
- President
- VP- Assist the President, available to step in for Pres.
- 2nd VP- Assist the President, available to step in for VP.
- Secretary
- Treasurer- considering charging a nominal annual fee to cover costs (website hosting, offset events cost, materials, etc.) and add value to membership.
- Civic Involvement Chair- The CIC coordinates with the city of Riverside to provide opportunities for members to become leaders of their communities. The Co-Chair develops relationships with Greater Riverside philanthropic organizations to provide valuable volunteer service hours to their causes. Potential beneficiaries of CIC volunteer service hours may include the American Cancer Society, The Unforgettables, YWCA of Riverside County, Riverside Art Museum, United Way, Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful, Habitat for Humanity, and AVID. The CIC’s general strategy is to find ways to use our assets as young, creative, resourceful professionals to benefit both the citizens of Riverside and Pick members alike. The CIC plans to sponsors four or more events per year in which members can give back to the community by donating valuable volunteer service hours.
- Social Chair- The Social Committee is responsible for coordinating the many social activities that the Pick Group will host throughout the year. The goal of the committee is to organize events that appeal to a wide range of interests both within, and external to, our membership.
- Monthly events may include:
- Happy Hour
- Dinner Club. - A group of members that meet to explore a different Riverside restaurant.
- Movie Club - A group that meets to see and discuss the latest blockbuster or critically acclaimed film.
- Friday/Saturday Night Festivities - An event that is held on a Friday or Saturday night at a hot event or simply an entertaining evening at a local pub.
- Sorta Sports - A “sort of” sporting event such as Hiking, Ice Skating, or Bowling.
- Cultural Series - A series of discounts or special showings of Riverside Cultural events such as Performance Riverside, Philharmonic, Ballet, or Art Exhibits.
- Monthly events may include:
- Professional Development Chair- The Professional Development Committee plans and executes the CEO Speaker Series, topical lunch discussions, and ad-hoc professional networking events. These events connect members with leaders in Riverside’s business, philanthropic, academic, and political communities. This committee will also be responsible for coordinating a Graduate Education Fair.
- Membership Chair- Along with promoting The Pick Group and recruiting new members, the MC manages all aspects of membership services including: a regularly scheduled newsletter, maintaining the website, maintaining the database of member information and handling all public relations. This committee will produce scheduled membership orientations and welcome events prior to large social events (allowing new members to become acquainted in a smaller setting before joining the larger group at the event).
- Nominating Chair- Will coordinate annual election process.
- Members at Large (2)
EB requirements include:
- Attending a monthly EB meeting (miss more than 2 and you step down)
- Committee chairs facilitate monthly committee meetings in order to produce events
We, as members of the steering committee, will also go through the election process.
We need you to:
- Email to membership@pickriverside.org indicating the position(s) you are interested in and
- Provide a paragraph indicating your qualifications/skill sets/etc., due back by Friday 2/29.
We plan to hold elections at the March 11 meeting. If more than one candidate is interested in the same position, they will have the opportunity that night to share why they are qualified, etc. If you are unable to attend this meeting, a written statement can be read on your behalf. Voting will take place silently by ballot.
This might seem cumbersome, but HOW FANTASTIC IS IT THAT WE CAN ALL BE A PART OF CREATING SOMETHING SO DYNAMIC IN OUR COMMUNITY???!!! If you have suggestions for improving the process do share.
